Officer David Fritz said, "Yes it is a hazard,", "This is not some skate park, it's a school. When someone is out in the quad and they do a trick on their skateboard, the skateboard sometimes gets away from them, goes flying and hits someone by accident."
Signs will soon be posted around both campuses that state skateboarding is no longer permitted. Until the signs are put in place "students caught riding their skateboard will only receive a warning, but when these signs are up; citations will be given out to any student that does not follow this new policy," Officer Fritz said.

I can see Ricardo's reasoning, but it is a false analogy. You can't compare injuries from skateboarding to smoking.

There's another snide way to give the college/cops more hard-earned revenue. What's next: a citation for riding you bike when commuting around campus (if it hasn't already)?

It seems like the police go WAY, WAY overboard when dealing with skateboarders. Just look at these clips on Youtube...
