Nine months ago, Davik Teng flew to California from Cambodia to have her heart repaired. Hearts Without Boundaries, a non-profit organization, helped secure the health of the 9 year old from Cambodia.

One of the volunteers for the organization, David Kem, helped fundraise for Teng's surgery. In a sick twist of fate, Kem found out shortly after the success of Davik's surgery that his nephew from Cambodia also was suffering from the same heart problem, ventricular septal defect. In the case of Kem's nephew, Vy Soksamnang, his condition is more fatal than that of Davik's. Soksamnang is 11 months old and has a hole the size of a pea in his heart.

Kem's previous deeds were not forgotten. Hearts Without Boundaries currently is working to raise enough money for surgery so Soksamnang can live a healthy life. One Love, a student club at Millikan High School, also made it overwhelmingly clear that Soksamnang's life does matter.

"We saw the article in the Press-Telegram. We were inspired to do something about it. I thought it would be a great project for the club," said the Milikan teacher, Mrs. Van Dine. On Nov. 24, Van Dine and her class for One Love, invited Soksamnang and his family to do a presentation at Milikan on the baby's condition in room 206.

While Soksamnang was sound asleep, the class gave his mother, Rotha Pang, some flowers. One Love then gave Pang a check worth $539. Dine says the actual amount of the donation is more than $600 and the rest will be presented to Soksamnang when all of the funds have been gathered.

A question and answer session followed the donation presentation. Several students got up, one at a time, to talk to Pang and gave her their best wishes. Due to language barriers, a translator was present and able to relay the students' heartfelt messages to Pang. After being able to speak with Pang, the class watched a video clip briefing them on the success story of Teng. Soksamnang woke up just in time to meet the students and had several group pictures taken with the class.
