LBCC fashion students will be hosting their 33rd Annual Fashion Awards show titled, "The Avant-Garden of Eden." The event will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the LAC Auditorium.
The show will start with a segment called "Avant-Garden of Eden," created particularly to highlight the show's theme. A special segment called "The Next Generation" will feature outfits designed by five local high schools, which include Lakewood, Artesia, Cerritos, Norwalk and Renaissance High school for the Arts.
Linda Pham, fashion merchandise major, is in the Fashion Show Production class, giving her the opportunity to take part in the Fashion Show.
"For the most part, taking this class really gives you hands on with putting together a fashion show," she said. "I'll be in the front of the auditorium keeping track of the press who may come to see the show. So I'm pretty much just anticipating how the crowd will be that night before everyone sits down and enjoys the show."
"The design students will display colorful creations inspired by beautiful objects in nature, such as birds, flowers, jelly fish, butterflies, and even the phenomenon of Aura Borealis," Program Director Pamela Knights said, "LBCC company will return for a third year to judge the project runway competition for which they have assigned the students the challenge of designing a cocktail or evening dress inspired by a sexy siren during the film noir era."
Industry professionals will judge student entries, and winners will receive the Golden French Curve Design Awards and donated scholarships.
Pre-sale tickets are $12 through the ASB Bank located in the LAC Bookstore. General admission tickets are $15 at the door. However, high school students can purchase tickets at the box office for $8 with school identification.
