After a hiatus due to personal conflicts and illness, the local band Late Night Show returned Friday Nov. 6 to the stage of Di Piazza's restaurant in Long Beach.

The band features LBCC students Sidney San on the bass and Max Cogert on the drums. Lead guitar and singer Kris Beeks.

With Beeks hitting high notes as well as effectively screaming in song, the band classifies itself pop punk, alternative and experimental.

Performing as a 3-piece for the first time after the removal of one member, Late Night Show still had energy.

The show contained creative song titles such as "Zombie's Got a Gun" and "Hearts Full of Hi-Chew." The band closed with its version of the popular medley of "Stand by Me" and "Beautiful Girls" where Cogert stood and used just his drumsticks to make a beat.

LBCC student Carlos Ortega, who proclaims himself to be a hardcore fan of the show, has been to every one of their performances.

"It's quite different, very different, but it's not a bad thing," Ortega said.

"If bands like Green Day and Blink 182 could do it and be successful with three members, then Late Night Show can too."

After the show - sweat-drenched Beeks told the lingering fans that the band had practiced for four hours in the afternoon because they didn't have a set list of songs to play.

"I could hear more of the individual pieces," Beeks's father said. "They're getting used to having three members."

"These guys have yet to put on a crappy show for me," audience member Curtis Guinn said.

Late Night Show has been together for almost four years, and after the hiatus, their MySpace headline now reads "Good things come in 3's."

Oh Late Night Show? I've heard of them, not bad at all. Amazing live, from what I've heard. Good article.
