Film teacher Phillip Boland has resigned as head of the LBCC Theater Dance and Film Department.

Boland also canceled the film classes he was teaching this Fall Film1, 20, 21 and 60AD were canceled until a replacement was hired. Boland also was one of the founding members of the LBCC Filmmakers Association and a full-time teacher.

Boland was contacted through e-mail and gave the reason for his sudden resignation.

"I half- resigned and half-took a leave of absence for two reasons; my first feature I wrote was picked up on a multi-million dollar budget.  We shot at the end of Spring and first of Summer in Thailand with the famous James Hong from "Blade Runner."  I made a choice to leave education and work on my first passion.  I am now frantically editing this feature for a Spring release date."

His second reason was because of personal family reasons.

Rose DelGaudio, vice president from Human Resources, said, "He resigned from his position. There was no was no reason stated in his case."

Multiple e-mails were sent to professors who worked with Boland. No one responded.

Concerning the filmmakers club, which Boland advised, he wished them the best.

"As far as the Filmmakers Association and the film program, there are nothing but wonderful student leaders and amazing adjunct faculty and mentors to fill in the gaps.

"I personally believe that the club and the film program will continue to grow and thrive.  I have nothing but love and affection for the organization, the students, the film program, adjunct faculty.

"I believe in my heart that the quality of adjunct faculty and the quality of students will grow the film family in exciting ways that even. I couldn't imagine."

"I have big hopes for their future.  I feel that I have helped build a strong foundation for others to finish constructing the future," Boland said.

On Boland's sudden departure, the film club was contacted through e-mail and Facebook.

The club posted a comment on its wall Sept. 30 about his departure; "Hello everyone. There are recently a lot of rumors going around about Professor Boland's departure and just to let everyone know, we don't know any additional information about what happened. What we do know is that to our misfortune, Professor Phillip Boland voluntarily quit and he will be very missed.
